From the Heart
I'm a caregiver,I'm one of those foreignars who live and work in the usa.America became our country, our family, our life. We all have got a lot of friends and have a new life here.I have about 20 years of happy teaching experience on my shoulders. Now I've got a new "profession"- caregiver.I like the word and I like being a person who gives care. I'm proud of my new job as I was proud of being a teacher.I make difference in the life of my friend, 88-year-old Mr.Katherine Columbo.I have accepted her with all her needs and wants. I enjoy being with her.I'm part of her life and member of her small family. When she is good,I feel good,If something hurts her I am sick too.Not only I take care of her she takes care of me as well. "God bless you!"_I hear these words every day and she looks into my face with worshipful eyes. I feel her love is energizing and I believe I'll be blessed.I love begining of each new day becouse Kady is waiting for my encourageing smile and "Good morning dear." Old people are like babies. They are so fragile, tottaly dependent and a bit scared.I have got two noble professions-teacher and caregiver. Both are connected with human soul.We touch the hearts, feelings. I used to shape my students future, now I make her future easier. After my day offs I hurry home as I know she is waiting for me with words; "I missed you." I answer with a lump in my throut -'I missed you too, sweety." I'm so glad that katherine let me into her heart. My kindness always lifts her spirit. Caregiver(s) be: soft, kind, gentle, honest and nice to make the elderly happy. You have clearly identified what makes caregivers so special, why they have reason to be proud, and why they earn the respect of others. It is their nobility.
You have pursued two noble courses: teaching and caregiving. What an honorable life you have lived, an example of the selflessness that elevates one person over the masses. It is not wealth, beauty, fame, athletic prowess or corporate power that makes one worthy of respect, although the media and the marketers might have you think otherwise. It is what we do for other people that counts. And it doesn't matter if it's noticed by anyone other than the one for whom you care.
What makes your story all the more wonderful is not just how you have dedicated yourself to the betterment of the lives of others, but how you feel you get as much from them as they get from you.
You are right. You are blessed. Blessed with an attitude and beliefs that, if shared by others, could change the world for the better.
