Caring Today Community -

In Sickness and in Health

Just joined today. Picked up two copies of the print magazine Caring Today, at my local caregivers support group. In the Jan/Feb '07 issue is the Caregiver Profile about Rebecca and David Otterness. That is so me. I'm taking care of my husband who also has MS and has progressed to the Progressive stage. He is now considered "full assist". It's like haveing a 6'3" 149LB baby to take care of. As it happens Bob is able to use the Veterans Health Care System, so we are good that way, and I am able to stay home and be with him all day. (read I don't have to work outside the home).

I especially got my heart touched when I read the sidebar on page 26. Advice that's not helpful. "Being told to 'take care of yourself'" This gal really knowes the real world of caregiving. Kudos to you, Rebecca, for having the courage to tell it like it really is!!!
So many of us are dealing with a lot of the same things as Rebecca and her husband. It just makes me feel so much better to learn that my attitude is not so wrong after all.

Thanks,
