THE SANDWICH MOM: Lessons Learned by Beth

Photography by Fran Collin
When I come back from Mom’s, I’m used up between her and my kids. One of the most important things is to find out how I can take care of myself. I get deep tissue massages for stress and go to a chiropractor for pain in my neck, shoulders and back. That’s where I hold tension.
I discovered there are services available for kids like Tommy, but you have to network and then make it a crusade. That’s how I found out about the picture exchange and schedule board from a family trainer. But it took two years of calling and demanding. What I’m looking at now is how to make more time for myself and to be with my kids.
I tell myself, "This is under my control." I know I don’t spend enough time with friends. I need to put that on my list. My brothers and sisters-in-law are my friends, too. We have conference calls about Mom.
